What is an LCSP?
The aim of the Local Community Safety Partnership is to bring together local councillors, An Garda Síochána, public services (e.g., HSE and Tusla), community and voluntary organisations, businesses, education, and local residents to coordinate practical responses to community safety issues.
Core functions
- Act as a forum to discuss and coordinate local community safety.
- Develop and adopt a three-year Local Community Safety Plan through public consultation.
- Implement, monitor and review the plan, and report annually.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and support community initiatives.
Why now?
The LCSP's were created to replace Joint Policing Committees and reflect the Government’s shift to a more collaborative, locally driven model of community safety. Regulations signed in June 2025 enabled LCSP's to begin operating in every local authority area.
-
- Minimum of six meetings annually
- Voluntary Chair and Vice-Chair elected from members; supported by a full-time Coordinator and Administrator.
