Conservation

Applications are now invited from owners and custodians of historical buildings in County Kildare in need of repair and conservation.  The aim of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to owners and custodians of historic structures & thatch buildings to carry out appropriate and essential conservation works using best conservation practice and principles to their qualifying historic structures.  

  • The total value of all public funding received for individual projects, including funding from other public agencies, must not exceed 80% of the total project cost

  • It is at the discretion of the Local Authority to decide on the amount of grant funding allocated to individual projects, and so the proportion of costs covered will in many cases be considerably lower than 80%.

 

  • Protected Structures are eligible for grants of between €2,500 and €50,000 (subject to not exceeding 80% of the total project cost)

  • Where a vernacular structure is also a Protected Structure or within an ACA it is eligible for grants of up to €50,000, otherwise the maximum allowable grant is €30,000 for a vernacular (subject to not exceeding 80% of the total project cost)

  • Following formal approval by the Department, Local Authorities shall notify successful applicants by January 2026. The Notification shall set out the level of funding approved, the timeline for the completion of works, and the terms and conditions of the award.

 

  • A Method Statement is to be submitted with the application for funding in respect of all projects. A method statement is a summary plan of the works intended to be carried out.  The method statement can be completed by a Contractor, Architect or Conservation Professional engaged to carry out the work or whoever has provided the quote to undertake the works.  The length and detail of the method statement will vary depending on the type of works being applied for.

 

Completed application forms accompanied by;

-           a quotation(s) for the proposed works,
-           photos of the existing structure showing the area of proposed works and
-           any other supporting documents eg. Method Statement
