Eduroam

What is eduroam?

eduroam, short for education roaming, is a WiFi service which enables students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to securely access the internet at their college/university whilst using any of Kildare libraries. This is provided in partnership with HEAnet.

How does eduroam work?

eduroam is a WiFi service set identifier (SSID) that is broadcast over the Kildare library WiFi network. Similar to the way a mobile device immediately connects to a known home WiFi network when its owner enters the entrance hall, a user’s phone automatically connects to eduroam as they walk into one of our libraries where eduroam is available. eduroam is preconfigured on the user’s device, meaning there is no reconfiguration needed, or indeed no cost to use the service, as they roam from one location to another.

Cad is eduroam ann?

Is giorruchán é eduroam le haghaidh fánaíocht oideachais, seirbhís WiFi a cheadaíonn le mic léinn, taighdeoirí agus foireann ón institúidí rannpháirteacha rochtain slán ar an idirlíon a fháil ina gcoláistí/ a n-Ollscoileanna agus iad ag baint úsáide as aon leabharlann de chuid Seirbhís Leabharlainne Chill Dara. Cuirtear ar fáil é seo i gcomhpháirtíocht le HEAnet.

Cén chaoi in a fheidhmítear eduroam?

Is aitheantóir socraithe (SSID) é eduroam a chraoltar thar an líonra WiFi de chuid Seirbhís leabharlainne Chill Dara. Sa chaoi chéana ina ndéanann gléas fón soghluaiste ceangal láithreach le líonra WiFi aitheanta nuair a théann an úinéir isteach sa halla isteach, déanann fóin an úinéara ceangal go huathoibríoch le eduroam nuair a théann siad isteach i gceann dár leabharlanna ina mbíonn eduroam ar fáil. Bíonn eduroam réamhchumraithe ar ghléas an úsáideora, a chiallaíonn nach gá le athchumrú, nó costas leis an seirbhís a úsáid go deimhin, agus iad ag fánaíocht ó suíomh go suíomh eile.
