Philip Byrne Celbridge/Leixlip The group proses to produce a full-scale production of Philip Ridley's The Pitchfork Disney in the spring of 2023. The play is a seminal work in the confrontational 1990s style of British drama termed 'in-yer-face' theatre.  €500.00
Triona Homan Celbridge/Leixlip OLGC would like to hold a free community concert at the end of May, held in Leixlip at the time that the traditional Salmon Leap festival/Leixlip festival would have taken place in previous years.  €400.00

Sheena Malone Clane/Maynooth I am applying for financial assistance for my first solo exhibition which will take place in Riverbank Arts Centre in late 2023. The KNUCs Clane/Maynooth The Kildare North Ukulele Club (KNUCS) would like to apply for assistance with the rental costs of our rehearsal space and some basic equipment for the group. €400.00
Baiba Gaigra Kildare/Newbridge The project will be implemented by the Latvian amateur theatre group 'Sliedes', which has 27 members and is directed by Baiba Gaigra. The project will include the production of the play North of Riga by Irish playwright Eoin MacNamee in Latvian and the organisation of its premiere. €1,500.00
Crooked House Theatre Company Kildare/Newbridge Nasc is a newly devised theatre project, looking at creating a multilingual piece with young people about the ideas of land ownership and the environment. It will be a weekly workshop with theatre-maker Cian O'Náraigh leading to a site-specific performance in Newbridge. €2,500.00

Margaret Kane-Rowe Kildare/Newbridge To complete a project-based online course using Premier Pro editing software so I can create and edit my content and films in a cinematic format. Use these skills to execute and edit a poetry film or a short narrative film. €500.00

Newbridge Musical Theatre Kildare/Newbridge Newbridge Musical Theatre's staging of Disney's The Little Mermaid from 10th to 15th  April 2023 in Newbridge College Theatre.  We will cater to an audience of c1,500 people with c100 people involved.  €500.00

Conor Burke Naas An exploration of toxic fandom, the art that defines a person, and the American television show Glee, Gleek of the Week is a brand-new performance piece written and developed by actor and playwright Conor Burke. We are currently seeking funding to stage the show at The Moat Theatre. €1,000.00
Eilis Rafferty Naas We propose to run a Directors Mentoring Programme, the aim of which is to develop new directors within the Moat Club, Naas. It has been designed to cater for a group of 3 novice directors. It will culminate in each of them producing a one-act play in April 2024. €2,000.00
Isobel Tighe Naas I plan to attend a one-on-one specialist gold gilding course in July 2023. The course is taught by Richard Walker at the Watergild Studios in Hants, UK. I am developing a new body of work that will incorporate gold gilding and will require a subsequent month of studio time to develop this new technique. €1,000.00

Sarah Hayden Naas We will compete in the All Ireland Ballroom  Championships in June and if successful we would use funds to support training for this competition. Georgina Kemmy Kildare / Newbridge Georgina Kemmy will facilitate an 8-week project exploring nature as an art medium through interactive workshops such as rowan berry jewellery making, elder tree pencil making, leaf printing, and other seasonal art projects in the school garden of Scoil Bhríd Nurney in the Autumn term of 2023. €2,500.00
Paul Woods Kildare / Newbridge The aim of this residency would be to engage with pupils who have differing ethnic and cultural backgrounds in order to facilitate an art project on the school grounds. Eva Griffin Clane/Maynooth I propose to research and write poems that will explore the fluid, shifting potentials of video game landscapes, timelines, narratives, and bodies. I intend to explore visual poetry, building on the DIY ethos of zines. It is hoped that these poems will form the manuscript for a book-length work. €1,500
Ed O'Loughlin Kildare/Newbridge I want to write an historical novel, The Winter Wife, about a Donegal woman and a Kildare man who briefly come together in the Klondike gold rush in Arctic Canada in 1897. Conor Matthews Cellbridge/Leixlip My proposal is for the recording and publication of a limited series horror podcast, set in Leixlip featuring local landmarks, telling the story of a nameless narrator and his dog Diva when their lives are flipped upside-down by a horrifying mystery surrounding trees in the local park. €900.00
Rufina  Tishina Naas We plan to record an EP in Platform4 Audio and Digital Media Studio with the help of Resident House Engineer by the end of 2023. €900.00
         
Research and Thinking Bursary Award      
Cian O'Náraigh Kildare/Newbridge My proposal is to focus on developing a full play (working title: Obscene and Morally Corrupting), about censorship and media, inspired by the 'Committee of Evil Literature' of 1926. The work will involve me researching the historical archives, figuring out a potential structure, and working on a draft. €2,500
Lara Coady Cellbridge/Leixlip Develop my creative and directorial theatre practice through dedicated research, thinking, and writing time. Focusing on refining and further developing my methods of theatre-making, particularly in the early stages of the creative process. Supported by my mentorship with acclaimed theatre maker and director Dan Colley. €2,500
Louise O Meara Cellbridge/Leixlip To develop and improve my physical and dance theatre devising skills by working with dance artist Phillippa Donnellan through a series of one-to-one sessions online from May-July followed by an in-person workshop, using visual and written materials about farming as the thematic starting point. €2,500
         
Short Grass Film Bursary Award      
Eamon  Hughes Clane/Maynooth George is a quiet child, who finds solace in his own creative outlets. A fascination that struck him in a formative moment when he met THE PAINTED MAN, a transfixing street performer. Their connection deepens as The Painted man gives George the required room for his creativity to blossom. €12,500.00
Fergus Mulligan Clane/Maynooth BEYOND THE SYSTEM is an innovative Dystopian Science-Fiction short film that utilizes virtual production technology. Produced entirely within a studio located in Kilcock, Co. Kildare, the production pipeline uses Unreal Engine 5 for world-building, green screen capture of the actors' performances, and a comprehensive post-production workflow for compositing. €1,500.00
Allyn Quigley Cellbridge/Leixlip FINDLATER is a short chamber piece drama about two women brought together in front of a microphone to discuss their shared past. It deals with issues of addiction, mental health and intergenerational trauma. The project was filmed late last year and funding is now required for post-production and festival submissions. €1,500.00
         
Tyrone Guthrie Centre Bursary Award       
Declan  Toohy Clane/Maynooth My proposed project is a collection of experimental essays that blends family history, personal obsessions, surreal humour and obvious fantasy. Naturally, I wouldn't compose the entire collection at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, but rather follow on from previously published work and compose new essays for the collection. €400.00
Maria  McDonald Kildare/Newbridge My latest manuscript has a working title of After Harvey. It is set in present-day Kildare, but refers back to the lives of previous owners. The hotel was originally the manor house of a large country estate which was burned during the Civil War.  The main bulk of the story is written however it needs major editing. First, I need to complete a structural edit, which should take approximately one week. Then a copy edit before looking at a final edit. €400.00
John Phelan Kildare/Newbridge I propose to work on the script of a play, 'The Two Philosphers and the Ancient Gods', which involves an encounter between an ancient fallen God and two philosophers. Satire and humour propel the narrative through an otherworldly performance of absurd ritual. €400.00
Olga  Anacka Kildare/Newbridge Develop a series of experimental printing in a social context with application of organic and inorganic objects found in the vicinity of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. €400.00
         
Youth Arts Bursary Award      
Karina Power Clane/Maynooth We propose that Kildare based theatremaker Anna Galligan, will work with our members to devise a piece of physical theatre using themes of County Kildare as inspiration. Anna will work with the group on a variety of theatre styles over a two week period and culminate in a public performance. €2,500.00
         

 

The application window for Creative & Arts Grants 2023 closed at 5pm, Tuesday 28th February 2023

Kildare County Council has published details of 19 separate grants, commissions and bursary award opportunities to support the development and presentation of creative and artistic projects in the county in 2023. Applications will be accepted from individual artists and creatives, arts collectives, community groups, youth groups and schools.

The deadline for receipt of applications for all awards was 5pm, Tuesday 28th February 2023. Full details of the eligibility criteria are available through each individual call out.

Kildare County Council supports creative and arts events, programmes and artists in a variety of ways annually.  Artists, arts collectives and community groups, schools, and youth groups may consider applying for the following grant and award opportunities to support their artistic projects in 2023:

The Arts Act Grant aims to provide financial assistance to individual artists, art groups and community projects engaged in arts practice or projects/events at local or county level in Kildare.

The Arts in Education Residency Award is open to all primary and post primary schools in County Kildare who wish to engage a professional artist to enhance the school's Arts Education programme.

The Arts, Health & Wellbeing Award will provide a grant to support the development and/or creation and/or presentation of new artistic work that supports public engagement with the arts, in particular with hard-to-reach communities or those limited access to the arts, whether for physical, social or geographical reasons.

The Artistic Entrepreneur Bursary aims to support the initiation or development of an artistic business based in Kildare. The seed funding may act as a catalyst for an artist to develop their business idea or for a fledgling arts business to expand.

Kildare County Council invites applications for bursary awards that will develop bodies of work with a public interface/engagement that focuses on cultural activity involving the arts, creative industries, heritage and the Irish language.

Applications welcome from artists, creatives practitioners and organisations for new public-facing artistic projects of ambition across art forms to coincide with the county's Cruinniú na nÓg celebrations in 2023.

Applications are invited from individual artists and/or groups of artists for new public-facing artistic projects of ambition across art forms to coincide with the county's Culture Night celebrations.

The Dennis O'Driscoll Literary Bursary Award is open to both established and emerging writers and critics from or currently residing in county Kildare.

The Drama League or Ireland (DLI) Summer School Bursary Award is open to applications from individual theatre/drama practitioners from or currently residing in county Kildare who wish to attend and participate in the DLI Summary School 2023.

The Emerging Visual Artist Solo Exhibition Bursary Award is open to Visual Art students due to graduate in summer 2023, and other emerging visual artists who have or are in the process of creating a significant body of work. The recipient of the bursary award will be invited to present a solo exhibition in Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge

This award will provide professional artists based in County Kildare an opportunity to discuss artistic career and explore goals and how best to achieve them with a specialist Executive Coach Matthew Ralli,  over a number of sessions.

The award, in collaboration with First Fortnight, aims to support the development and presentation of new work that provokes conversation around mental health and promotes mental health awareness and wellbeing.

The Local Publishing Award was established to assist Kildare based individuals and groups with the costs associated with publishing writing of local interest. The aim of the award is to recognise the contribution of scholarly work to our knowledge of the history and heritage of County Kildare and to assist with the publication of said scholarly work. 

The Platform 4 Recording Bursary Award provides three days recording in the Platform4 Audio and Digital Media Studio or use of the studio’s portable recording rig for live recordings. An integral part of the bursary is working with the Platform 4 resident House Engineer on how to get the most out of the studio time.

This bursary award aims to support the professional development of artists in county Kildare by offering the time to research and think about their arts practice or explore a new area within it, without the pressure of producing work.

The Kildare Short Grass Film Bursary award is open to both established and emerging filmmakers and production companies in all genres, from or living in Co Kildare to support the development of film practice or the progression of an original film project.

This Commission aims to support film production in the county, by commissioning an original film to be shot in County Kildare in 2023/24. Applications are invited for original script ideas from filmmakers at all stages of their development.

Applications are welcome from individual artists from all fields born or living in County Kildare to enable them to spend up to 2 weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, the artists’ workplace in Monaghan.

The Youth Arts Bursary Award is open to all youth clubs and youth arts groups in County Kildare who wish to engage a professional artist for an Arts project.

Kildare County Council Arts Service hosted a number of Information Sessions in locations throughout the county about applying for Creative Ireland, arts grants and bursary awards with Kildare County Council. Sessions are of particular interest to individual artists and creatives, art collectives, community groups, youth groups and schools who intend to apply for Creative Ireland and Arts Grants from Kildare County Council in 2023.

  • Tuesday 17th January, Athy Library, 6.30pm -7.30pm
  • Wednesday 18th January, Riverbank Arts CentreNewbridge, 11.00am – 12.00pm 
  • Saturday 21st January, Leixlip Library, 11.00am – 12.00pm 

All are welcome to attend a FREE session, but booking is recommended. 

In addition, a presentation will be recorded and made available via Kildare Arts Service’s YouTube and social media channels from Tuesday 24th January 2023.
