‘Furrow’ - David Dunne

Medium: Metal

This metal sculpture by David Dunne is similar to works by the artists from the German expressionist group ‘die Brücke’. It can be compared to woodcuts such as Erich Heckel’s catalogue cover from 1910. With woodcuts an image is cut into the wood then ink is applied to the wood then the wood is pressed against a piece of paper. Here instead of looking at a print made from the woodcut this piece is like the carved woodcut itself. Even the theme is similar to that seen in works of ‘die Brücke’ artists, as they had a keen interest in a return to a more primitive way of life and a return to nature.
