Isabel Nolan was born in Dublin in 1974. She has exhibited extensively in Ireland, across Europe as well as in China. She represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale in 2005. Her work is represented in the collections of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), and The Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin and other public and private collections in Ireland and overseas. Her works include the traditional drawings, paintings and embroidery as well as animation, mixed media and fibreglass sculpture.

These works by Isabel Nolan all predominantly feature text. While many people would find it unusual to see a painting that is purely or mostly text based it does have precedence in art. The conceptual artist Barbara Kruger, the pop artist Ed Ruscha and the graffiti artist Ben Eine are all known for their text based art, although they all work in very different styles and using very different techniques.
