‘Reflections at Yeoman’s Town’ - James Nolan
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Dimensions:45cm x 60cm
Location: Áras Chill Dara, Naas.
Born in Dublin in 1929, Nolan studied Fine Art at St. Martin’s College of Art in London and the National College of Art in Dublin. He specialises in landscape and figurative paintings in watercolour and oils. He has exhibited across Ireland, in mainland Europe, including the Uffizi in Florence, and in the USA.
This work is executed in a style similar to late Impressionism, with loose brushstrokes, making this pastoral landscape scene almost appear like an abstract work. Compositionally it is similar to Monet’s painting “Poplars on the River Epte” from 1891. Both paintings are studies of light and reflection. Nolan manages to convey an autumnal riverside scene with an economic use of colour and brushstrokes.
