For this painting, Michael Asher has created a very unusual shaped canvas, much in the way the surrealist artist Rene Magritte did with his painting La Représentation (Representation). In the painting Asher manages to take a subject (space) which if painted purely as seen would look fairly flat and perhaps even uninteresting, and add to it flourishes of imagination and colour, giving the impression of a three dimensional image.
