These three untitled paintings by Paul Doran are all abstract works. In all three works the paint is oil paint applied thickly in a style called “impasto”. This way of applying the paint gives the finished work a three-dimensional quality. It is a style that was made popular by Vincent Van Gogh and used by American Abstract Expressionist painters such as Willem De Kooning.
