James Morrison
“Carousel”
These images works by James Morrison hang together to make one work. This kind of three-part work is known as a triptych. Traditionally hinges held Triptychs together with the two sides folding out from the centre image, rather than three separate framed works as this is, and would have usually depicted a religious scene, such as the Stations of the Cross. In this work Morrison shows three parts of the carousel in great detail. He manages to give a sense of the entire carousel and its movement without actually showing us every last detail.
