Eilish Langton announced as Creative Places Athy Coordinator

Kildare Arts Service is delighted to announce the appointment of Eilish Langton as Creative Places Athy Coordinator. Eilish will begin working with the teams this week and will hold responsibility for the delivery of the 3-year Creatives Places Athy programme for and with the people of Athy. Eilish will engage directly with communities, artists and stakeholders to successfully realise the programme’s aims and objectives.

Creative Places Athy is an arts and community development programme which aims to create opportunities for people to become more engaged in their town and develop an increased community connection through making socially engaged art. Athy has been successfully chosen alongside seven other Creative Places across the island of Ireland.

Originally from Barrowhouse, Athy, County Kildare, Eilish has 25 years’ experience as an artist and on the ground with communities. Her past careers inform her practice as a socially engaged artist and project worker in the community, continuously developing new and meaningful methods for engagement using the principles of community development. The values and principles at the core of her work include diversity, inclusion, community & wellbeing.  Eilish believes that ‘The arts are a necessary and strong tool for change, they are integral to communities, inherently collective, potentially transformative’.  Creative Places Athy will promote access to engagement in the arts and Eilish is looking forward to working with all communities to strengthen the cultural ability of Athy through its rich culture, history and heritage. She also brings with her skills as Healthy Carlow Coordinator with Carlow County Council since 2018 in delivering actions that support health & wellbeing.

Eilish holds a BA Hons in Citizenship & Community Studies from Carlow College and a Masters in Socially Engaged Art Further Adult & Community Education from the National College of Art and Design (NCAD).
