Culture Night Kildare announces lots of events for this year's celebrations

Kildare County Council is pleased to confirm that Culture Night will take place on Friday 23rd September 2022 from 4pm till late.

Culture Night is an annual island-wide public event that shines a light on all aspects of culture, creativity and the arts. On this night, doors are open late and all venues and events are available to the public free of charge. This year’s Culture Night, with the theme ‘One Night for All’ will offer the opportunity for audiences to once again celebrate and fully engage with in-person cultural events and to benefit from the pleasure and rewards they bring to all of us.

Each year thousands of groups and individuals participate in Culture Night the length and breadth of Kildare. Over the last few months, we have been delighted to receive applications from all over the county from those who want to share their talent, culture, creativity and interests, on Friday 23rd September. This year’s programme showcases the diversity of arts and culture in Kildare and offers a programme that fosters openness and encourages participation, valuing equality, inclusion, accessibility and diversity. One Night for All!

Speaking at the launch of the Kildare Culture Night programme, Mayor of Kildare, Cllr. Fintan Brett commended all of the contributors who are hosting events. He encouraged everyone to mark Culture Night in their diaries and to use the opportunity to explore the rich arts and cultural offering on our doorsteps.

For the county’s Culture Night celebrations, Kildare Arts Service have commissioned a number of exciting public-facing projects, across art forms and across the county. The Moneen Players will perform Dylan Thomas’ classic play ‘Under Milk Wood’ in Castlemitchell. Paul Woods will shine a spotlight on pioneering women in science with a mural of Kathleen Lonsdale in Newbridge. Kildare Art Collective will present a self-portrait exhibition and workshop called ‘In the Making’ in Newbridge. Visitors are invited to join artist Cathy Callan to make a large-scale collaborative art work called ‘Night Owl Blue’ in Clonmullion, Athy. The exhibition ‘I can listen’ by Clodagh Kelly, inspired by The Geneva Declaration on the Rights of the Child, will feature young artists from around the county of Kildare in Áras Chill Dara, Naas. The legacy of Ernest Shackleton will be celebrated with a new mural by Eloise Gillow in Athy in collaboration with the Shackleton Museum.

As part of Culture Night in Kildare, an exciting programme of events will be hosted courtesy of the LLPPS, an initiative launched by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media last year. ‘The Winter Dress’, an open-air play written by Angela Keogh will be performed in Castledermot. Ballymore Eustace Concert Band will take to the streets of the village for an open-air concert. Join Kasia Eliasz ‘Under the Palms’ for an interactive show of Brazilian music in the Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge. In Bradbury’s Tea Rooms in Athy, ’The Living Years’ will celebrate the achievements of Athy-born music producer Chris Neil. An immersive, site-responsive, promenade theatre presentation called 'This House is Elsinore' by Lianne O’Shea will be staged in various parts of The Moat Theatre. Singer songwriter Sarah Buckley will host an evening of music and spoken word in Maynooth. Newbridge Gospel Choir will raise the roof in Newbridge Town Hall with ‘A Night of Soulful Sounds’.
