Film in County Kildare

Kildare County Council Arts Service supports the development of film and screen-based practice in the county through a range of initiatives spanning production, education and audience development. Professional development for artists across all artforms is a key priority, and we work in partnership with national film organisations to provide training, workshops and progression opportunities for filmmakers at different stages of their careers.

Since 2009, Kildare County Council has supported a diverse range of film projects through the Kildare Short Grass Films Bursary and Commission Awards. These supports have enabled the production of short films, documentaries, animation, drama and feature-length work, many of which have gone on to achieve national and international recognition. The programme also supports filmmakers based in Kildare and encourages filming on location within the county.

Alongside these supports, the Arts Service delivers a number of initiatives that contribute to a vibrant local film ecology, including Kildare Young Filmmakers,  and the Maynooth Film for All Film Club. These programmes foster participation, skills development and audience engagement across communities.

Updates on opportunities, training and events are shared through our monthly e-bulletin and social media.
