Integration Through Sport Programme
This is an inclusive sport & healthy lifestyle programme designed for teens and adolescents from all ethnic minority communities. The programme is hosted by professional boxer "Lilywhite Lightning" Eric Donovan.
The programme offers a mixture of health & fitness classes and fun-based non-contact boxercise sessions. It also includes interactive workshops offering advice in areas such as nutrition, health & wellbeing, life skills and cultural identity.
The programme's aim is to help young people to develop physically and mentally and integrate into the community by encouraging them to engage and fully immerse in sports and physical activity in the community through boxing.
Throughout the programme, the facilitator Eric Donovan, shares personal stories, offers advice and discusses elements of his own journey through life and how he has overcome the many challenges he faced along the way.
"I believe we all have the potential to be great, we just need to discover our hidden abilities & qualities and this programme strives to help each participant identify and discover theirs." - Eric Donovan.
The participants had a private visit to the high-performance gym followed by admission to the Irish Junior Boxing Championships at the National Stadium. They also had the chance to meet the Irish Athletic Boxing Association President.
The programme is run in partnership with Healthy Ireland and Kildare Traveller Action Group.
