Kildare County Council launches new Climate Action Plan 2024-2029
To secure the sustainable future for the citizens of Kildare
Kildare County Council is delighted to announce the publication of the local authority’s Climate Action Plan 2024-2029.
This plan determines the actions to be delivered by Kildare County Council, businesses, and citizens in the county in response to the climate challenge. The ambitions of the Climate Action Plan are aligned to the Government’s national climate objective which seeks to achieve the transition to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
It is internationally agreed that there is an urgent need to take more ambitious climate action to secure a livable, sustainable future for all global citizens. To secure this sustainable future for the citizens of Kildare, Kildare County Council has prepared this Climate Action Plan to create a low carbon and climate resilient County, by delivering and promoting best practice in climate action in Kildare. The plan sets Kildare County Council’s responsibility for enhancing climate resilience, increasing energy efficiency, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, across our own assets, services and infrastructure, while taking on a broader leadership role.
The strategic vision of the plan states “Kildare County Council will deliver climate action across all council functions and will lead the community of County Kildare in the transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral local economy”.
Speaking about the Climate Action Plan, Marian Higgins, Director of Services, Kildare County Council said, “We are delighted to launch a Climate Action Plan for Kildare. The hard work and dedication of all involved is to be commended. This collaborative plan of action creates a pathway to reach the progressive targets set. We look forward to working with all stakeholders to bring it to fruition.”
“The Maynooth Decarbonizing Zone is a great blueprint for what can be achieved and provide results for other communities to follow and be inspired by.”
