Official opening of new Community Centre in Kilcock
A new dedicated Community Space
10th May 2024: Kildare County Council were delighted to host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the new Community Centre in Kilcock on Friday 10th May. Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Darragh Fitzpatrick was joined by Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Kildare County Council, Director of Services for Community, Climate, Environment and Water, Marian Higgins along with local TDs and members of the local community to commemorate this special occasion.
The official opening marks a significant milestone in Kildare County Council’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community in our county. The vision behind the centre is to provide a central hub to serve the local area, residents, sporting organisations, clubs, schools, and community groups. The centre includes a multi-purpose recreation hall with changing facilities, two multipurpose rooms and a projector room.
Speaking at the official opening, Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Councillor Daragh Fitzpatrick said; “Today is a very special occasion, a day when we celebrate, not only the creation of a valuable new facility for all of the residents of this area, but the strong community spirit and commitment which drove this inspiring project to its successful delivery. Community centres play a vital role in our communities and serve as the hub of local life. Whether you seek a space for recreation, education, cultural enrichment or simply connecting with your neighbours, your community centres stand as welcoming pillars, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment within their respective communities. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the elected members and staff of Kildare County Council who have been involved in the development of this special project”.

Kilcock has a long history of community involvement and participation, and I am confident The Kilcock Community Centre will soon become a hub of activity, of learning and where friendships are forged for years to come.”

In addition to the new Community Centre, a new playground, sensory garden and taste garden will be delivered in the open space around the centre in the coming months.
