Kildare County Council Launches Military Structures Heritage Project
Kildare County Council has today launched details of a new Heritage Project which will research Kildare’s Military Heritage, focusing particularly on military structures in the County.
Kildare County Council is calling on anyone with information or knowledge about sites and structures constructed or used by the British Military and the Irish Defence Forces during WW1 or WW2 to get in touch.
Kildare County Council has commissioned Archaeology Plan to carry out an audit of WW1 and WW2 military structures in County Kildare. Records show that there are over thirty WW1 & WW2 sites in County Kildare, and these sites form an important part of Kildare's heritage. If you know about a military heritage site, please tell us about it! We’re looking for:
- Your details
- Details about the site location
- The history of the site
- Details about access to the site
- Photographs
The information compiled will be published in a gazetteer of Kildare Military Heritage sites and submitted to the National Monuments Service for addition to the Record of Monuments and Places.
If you would like to speak with us about a military heritage site, please contact us at:kildaremilitarystructures@gmail.com or tel: 045 980791 (KCC Heritage Office)
The Kildare Military Structures Audit is led by Kildare County Council’s Heritage Office, in cooperation with Archaeology Plan.
This project is supported by the Heritage Council under the Heritage Plan fund and is an action in the County Kildare Heritage Forum.
