Applications now open for funding under the Community Climate Action Programme
13th December 2023: Kildare County Council is now inviting not-for-profit organisations and community groups in Kildare to apply for funding under the Community Climate Action Programme.
In February 2023 the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications announced funding of €24 million for Local Authorities to support and build low carbon communities across the country. The funding, which is part of the Community Climate Action Programme, will be made available to not-for-profit organisations and community groups interested in developing projects and initiatives which relate to addressing climate change.
Under strand one of the fund, Kildare County Council has been allocated a total of €897,000 to work in partnership with communities, large and small, rural, and urban, within County Kildare to build low carbon communities in a considered and structured way.
The grant is seeking projects that include the following 5 themes: Community Energy, Travel, Food and Waste, Shopping and Recycling and Local Climate and Environmental Action. Every project should aim to lower emissions.
There are three grant scales,
- small grants up to €20,000,
- medium grants between €21,000 and €50,000
- large grants between €51,000 and €100,000.
Applications are now open from 9am until 5pm 6th March 2024 and can be submitted online via https://submit.link/2cB

The Community Climate Action Programme will support the delivery of the new five-year Climate Action Plan for County Kildare, which is in development. The plan aims to position County Kildare as a national leader in climate action and strengthen the delivery of effective climate action at local and community levels, through place-based climate action.
