Naas, County Kildare Retains Ranking as Ireland’s Cleanest Town
Kildare County Council is delighted to welcome the announcement today that Naas has again topped the rankings as the cleanest town in Ireland by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) in their most recent survey. Maynooth also performed strongly, coming in tied second with Kilkenny.
An Taisce, who conduct the surveys on behalf of IBAL, described the main street of Naas as ‘exceptionally well presented and maintained’ and praised the town for attaining ‘a level of cleanliness and presentation that should inspire local authorities across the country’.
Cllr Evie Sammon, Mayor of the Naas MD welcomed the announcement saying: “It’s a wonderful start to the New Year for Naas, and to retain the title again is fantastic. We’re very proud of our Main Street in Naas and to have it acknowledged as “exceptionally well presented and maintained” is a great honour.”
“This award is all down to the work of Naas Tidy Towns volunteers who are out picking litter and cleaning the streets from dawn until dusk every day. It’s also an acknowledgment of volunteerism and of the cooperation between Naas Tidy Towns and Kildare County Council, in particular the Environment Department of the Council. Congratulations to all.”
The national IBAL litter survey showed cleanliness improvement levels of 6% nationwide, with three quarters of the 40 cities and towns surveyed being deemed clean, compared to just over half, this time last year.
