Kildare County Council publishes overview of extensive impact and contribution of 2022 Local Property Tax Funding
Over €5.4m in Local Property Tax Funding allocated to the 5 Municipal Districts in 2022
Hundreds of Projects & Initiatives delivered throughout the County
Kildare County Council has published an overview of the extensive contribution and impact of Local Property Tax funding in 2022.
Over €5.4m in Local Property Tax funding was allocated to the county’s 5 Municipal Districts in 2022 which contributed to the development and delivery of hundreds of community projects, environmental initiatives, county maintenance as well as creative and cultural programmes. Local Property Tax is an annual tax on residential properties, based on their market value and the allocation of this funding on an annual basis by Kildare County Council contributes to the quality of life and infrastructure of the citizens of Kildare across the 5 Municipal District Areas of the county.
Local Property Tax in 2022 significantly supported communities and community groups across Kildare through a wide range of projects and grants which included:
- Significant programme of works to maintain and improve existing parks and open spaces
- Over €117,000 allocated for Christmas lights in towns and villages across the county
- Over €26,000 allocated to Women’s & Men’s Shed groups
- Over €176,000 allocated in grants to Resident’s Associations
- Over €170,000 allocated to support 22 Tidy Towns Groups
Local Property Tax allocation in 2022 also significantly contributed to many maintenance projects throughout the county including footpath repairs, road signage, street cleaning and road maintenance. Over €140,000 in LPT funding in 2022 was allocated to maintenance and upgrading of public lighting throughout the county.
Kildare County Council is committed to leading a climate resilient Kildare, by building climate change resilience, action and sustainability into service and infrastructure, while protecting and promoting our natural built environment for the well-being of present and future generations. Significant LPT funding in 2022 was allocated to projects and initiatives to support this commitment including parks and landscaping, biodiversity projects, active travel initiatives, support of Tidy Towns initiatives, amongst others. Over €155,000 in LPT funding was allocated to tree planting and maintenance throughout the county in 2022.
A number of arts and cultural projects were supported through LPT funding allocations in 2022 also, including the Decade of Commemorations, Music Generation, Creative Places and the Brigid 1500 Cultural Programme. Funding of over €600,000 was allocated to Library and Arts projects, including major capital projects such as the development of new libraries in Clane and Celbridge.
