Maynooth Ranked as Ireland’s Cleanest Town
IBAL Summer Survey
Kildare County Council is delighted to welcome the announcement today that Maynooth has topped the rankings as the cleanest town in Ireland by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) in their most recent nationwide summer survey. Naas also performed strongly, coming in tenth.
Maynooth was ranked 1st out of 40 towns and cities across the country following a near-perfect showing in the markings. Many of Maynooth’s open/outdoor spaces were particularly appealing to the judges, not just with regard to litter but also for their presentation and maintenance. Locations such as Maynooth Campus, Buckley House, Carton Avenue and Patrick’s College were given particular mention for their ‘attractive’, ‘spotless’ and ‘meticulously maintained’ appearance. Special recognition was also given to the contribution of the Maynooth Tidy Towns group to the maintenance of many locations throughout the town.
IBAL winner in 2021 & 2022, Naas continues to rate very highly in the rankings, with seven out of the ten sites surveyed in the area achieving the top litter grade. These included locations such as Hollywood Park and Canal Bank at Abbey Bridge.
Set up in 1996, Irish Business Against Litter is an alliance of companies sharing a belief that continued economic prosperity - notably in the areas of tourism, food and direct foreign investment - is contingent on a clean, litter-free environment. As part of the IBAL Anti-Litter League, An Taisce monitors towns independently and in accordance with international grading standards.
