The purpose of the Kildare Cycle Forum is to support the development of cycling projects within the county, and any other projects which may impact on cycling. The group will provide a forum for regular professional and advocacy groups to input into ongoing policy and the practical development of sustainable transport solutions in Kildare.
The Kildare Cycling Forum consists of a number of members, which is chaired by the Chairperson of the Strategic Policy Committee on Transport, while one nominated member from each of the five Municipal District areas in Kildare will also sit on the group. The Cycle Forum consists of
- Council Officials and Elected representatives
- Cycling advocacy representatives
- Cycling Business representatives
- An Garda Síochána
- State Agencies – e.g. NTA, RPA, DTTaS, RSA, Cycle Right
Cycling and walking are two key elements of the Kildare County development Plan 2017-2023 and while walking and cycling trends vary across the county, the key aim of the Development Plan is to actively support the implementation of the national Cycle Policy Framework, from which the Cycle Forum is related to.
The forum will support the promotion of cycling programmes and activities while also providing a forum for professional and advocacy groups whose input into ongoing or incoming policies is not only valuable, but crucial.
The Cycle forum and sub-committees will meet at least four times a year and the Chairperson will be responsible for setting the agenda.
