Kildare County Council Celebrates Africa Day 2023 with Music, Food & Dance
Kildare County Council has today announced its plans for Africa Day 2023, which will include the theme ‘Strength in Diversity’ to celebrate the occasion.
Celebrations will take place in 3 locations across County Kildare with traditional African food, music, dance and many more fun and educational activities. Locations and dates are as follows:
- Saturday 20th May from 1pm to 4pm in the Monasterevin Community Centre, W23 FH24.
- Friday 26th May from 3pm to 8pm there will be celebrations in Maynooth Old Post Primary School Sports Hall, Moyglare Rd, W23 HC66, starting at 3pm with a parade from the square on main street Maynooth
- Friday 26th May from 7pm to 10pm Athy will celebrate in the Church of Ireland Hall, R14 V621
Africa Day celebrates the richness of African cultures and the contribution of people of African descent to Irish life. Africa Day celebrations are organised by Irish Aid at the Department of Foreign Affairs in partnership with African embassies in Ireland and local authorities around the country.
This year will see Ireland’s largest-ever Africa Day programme, with events being held nationwide. Ireland shares many links with the continent of Africa, and ‘Global Ireland: Ireland’s Strategy for Africa to 2025’ sets out the Government’s approach to deepening Ireland’s political, economic, cultural and development relations with African countries.
