Kildare County Council to host Community Public Consultation Event in Maynooth
In preparation for Kildare’s Climate Action Plan and Maynooth Decarbonising Zone Plan
As part of the preparation process for Kildare’s Climate Action Plan and the Maynooth Decarbonizing Zone Plan, Kildare County Council and RPS will host a Local Community Public Consultation event on Wednesday, 24th May 7.00-9.00 p.m. in Maynooth University.
This event will offer residents the opportunity to shape Maynooth’s Low-carbon Future. A series of short presentations will be given by guest speakers followed by breakout groups where ideas and suggestions will be formulated, which will feed into the plan.
The All of Government Climate Action Plan, 2019 sets out an ambitious whole-of-society approach designed to enable Ireland to meet its EU targets of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, and thereafter to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The plan sets Local Authorities the challenge of initially identifying one Decarbonising Zone in each local authority. A Decarbonising Zone (DZ) is defined as a spatial area in which a range of climate mitigation, adaptation and biodiversity measures and action owners are identified to address local low carbon energy, greenhouse gas emissions and climate needs to contribute to national climate action targets.
Maynooth having been selected as the DZ for Kildare will provide Kildare County Council with a very important test-bed. The practical experience and knowledge gained from this initial demonstrator project will accelerate learning in the county and inform future decarbonization..
The event will take place in Room TSI028, Technology, Society and Innovation (TSI) building, Maynooth University W23 X04D. A local comedian will also be present at the event, to entertain those in attendance and offer some comic relief.
