Fire an anthology of writing and art will be launched on Thursday, 26th September 2024 in Naas Library & Cultural Centre at 6.45pm.
Fire will be launched by Kildare artist Lucina Russell and will feature a short discussion with the editors Kildare writers Niamh Boyce and Shauna Gilligan and publisher Alan Hayes of the feminist press Arlen House. The discussion will be followed by readings from selected contributors.
Arlen House and the editors are delighted to include Noël O’ Callaghan’s “Snakelady” as the cover art for Fire, new work by writers such as Mary O’Donnell, Katie Donovan, Caroline Busher, Crsitín Leach and Oonagh Montague as well as art by Geri O’Brien, Cathy Callan and Ann McKenna, international writers and artists such as Johanna Zomers and Naia Poyer and some exciting new names!
This book was gratefully funded by Brigid 1500 and Kildare County Council and builds on the success of the Brigid 1500 Creative Writing Workshops “Writing Our Way to Brigid” which ran in Kildare Town Library by Shauna Gilligan in 2023. Work in Fire comes from an open call nationally and internationally to which the editors received over 500 submissions. The geographical reach of work confirms the influence, power, and interest in the themes of the anthology: the sacred feminine, Brigid and the heritage of Kildare.
This event is part of the KRF presents Kildare Reads series.
