Signal Paintings - Official Opening: Thursday March 20th 7pm
Official Opening: Thursday March 20th 7pm
Mark Butler is a painter from Leixlip, Co. Kildare. He develops his paintings using visual ideas that emerge from improvised drawings or doodles - whatever "pops out" - rather than from a predetermined set of visual references. Primarily working with charcoal and layers of acrylic paint on paper or canvas, he aims to let these intuitive beginnings evolve into fully realized paintings.
In this exhibition, entitled “Signal Paintings”, each painting in the series begins with an improvised drawing, which then serves as the foundation for further development. Butler refers to them as "Signal Paintings" because, as the process unfolds, these forms take on the qualities of signals—gradually becoming self-contained, and developing their own character, or disposition.
