Heritage Week: Introduction to Irish Wool
This is a fun and informative workshop given by felt-maker Sharon Wells. Sharon has a background in archaeology and is particularly interested in the heritage of Irish wool and how our ancestors used wool in their daily lives. In this workshop, you will get to see and handle lots of different types of Irish wool. You will learn how it is prepared for use: how it's washed, how it's dyed, how to do basic spinning and learn how twist makes wool strong. You will get to try a peg loom, some wet felting and needle felting. This workshop will include a screening of the 'Hands' documentary commissioned by the Irish Woolen Mills.
