Heritage Week Screening of HANDS with special guest Michael Tutty
Join us for a very special Heritage Week screening of the beautiful Hands episode featuring Tuttys Shoemakers of Naas. Michael Tutty, the current manager of the family enterprise, will be in attendance to answer questions and demonstrate some of the tools and materials used to make their bespoke shoes.
HANDS is a unique, multi-award-winning series of thirty-seven documentaries on Irish crafts. Made by the renowned filmmaking team, David and Sally Shaw-Smith, it was originally produced for Irish television (RTÉ). These intimate portraits are as much about the life of the individuals as the crafts they practiced. The films capture the essence of Irish heritage, creating a unique archive of life in Ireland at the end of the 20th century.
To celebrate Heritage Week 2024 August Craft Month, Kildare Libraries are delighted to screen a selection of episodes from the series, accompanied by events involving current practitioners of the featured crafts.
We thank Sally Shaw-Smith for allowing us to show the beautiful films, acknowledging the wonderful legacy left by her husband who sadly passed in 2021.
