A survey of the Manor of Rathmore in the Barony of Naas, 1669

A map which shows numbered divisions of land in the Manor of Rathmore. A small reference table on the left-hand side of the map is illegible. The Manor is bordered by Punchinstowne (Punchestown) and the Furr-Hill (Furryhill) to the east and the Comons (Commons) of Newtowne to the west. The road from Dublin to Rathmore runs east to west from the lower right corner of the map.  Several structures are indicated, including at Killie beside the Furr-Hill.  The names listed for the plots of land correspond in large part with the names listed for the Rathmore Parish, Barony of Naas in the Books of Survey and Distribution, 1641 such as Cheevers, Eustace, Sutton, Handcock and Allen. The map is coloured and has a decorative compass. Scale: 20 perches to 1 inch. Size: 130 cm X 97 cm.

Further information

The Books of Survey and Distribution,1641 record the names and holdings of landowners in the1640s. The Acts of Settlement (1662), and the Act of Explanation, (1665), made provisions for lands under the Cromwellian and Williamite confiscations to be administered by the Court of Claims. The books were a record of landowners and their estates and were used to impose the Quit Rent, an annual rent paid on land granted under the Acts of Settlement and Explanation. Those containing Co.
