Commemorative Tree Planting
A new oak tree was planted at Naas Lakes on Thursday 2nd June 2022 as a permanent tribute to the contribution of Kildare volunteers to the local pandemic response.
This follows on from a recent COVID-19 Volunteer Recognition Event which Kildare County Council hosted in partnership with Kildare Volunteer Centre, Volunteer Ireland and the Department of Rural and Community Development.
The ceremony was attended by Cathaoirleach of Kildare County Council Naoise Ó Cearúil, Interim Chief Executive Sonya Kavanagh, Acting Director of Services Marian Higgins, Senior Executive Officer Paula O’Brien, elected representatives and representatives of the community and voluntary sector, including members of Naas Community Men’s Shed.
The tree planted was a Quercus Petraea, which will grow into a tall, deciduous, very long-lived tree with a broad, rounded crown.
A commemorative plaque will be put in place on site.
