Kildare-Lexington Student Exchange 2022

The Kildare-Lexington Student Exchange Programme took place this Summer for the first time since 2019.

12 Kildare secondary students travelled to Lexington, Kentucky on Friday 1st July 2022 accompanied by their volunteer chaperone Patricia McNeela, Civil Defence Officer. They spent ten nights with their host families enjoying a busy programme of activities including Fourth of July celebrations, a reception by Mayor Linda Gorton and a Lexington Legends baseball game.

Their US counterparts arrived in Kildare on Friday 15th July 2022 accompanied by Kathy Houlihan from the Lexington Sister Cities Programme. They were welcomed at Áras Chill Dara by Cathaoirleach Fintan Brett and Interim Chief Executive Sonya Kavanagh.

The Irish programme included water-based activities in Blessington and Athy and a trip to Kildare Town to visit St. Brigid’s Cathedral, The Irish National Stud & Gardens and Kildare Village. Kildare student Cathal O’Carroll took on the role of Social Media Ambassador for this year’s programme, submitting excellent travel images which were posted online.

The Kildare-Lexington Student Exchange Programme 2022 was proudly supported by Kildare County Council and the County Twinning Committee.
