Community Fire Safety

More than 90% of fire deaths in Ireland occur in the domestic setting. However single dwellings do not fall under the scope of the Fire Services Act because enforcement of legislation in relation to fire safety in individual dwellings would be seen as unwarranted interference in people’s homes. The implication of this is that the onus is on individuals to protect themselves and their families from fire in the domestic dwelling setting.

The themes and practices of what have come to be termed ‘Community Fire Safety’ and fire safety promotion are the significant means by which people are assisted in protecting their families from fire in their own homes. Community Fire Safety aims to develop programmes to shift the current focus from responding to fires towards involving the community in preventing fires.

In order to promote fire safety in the home, the Fire Service try to engage with the public in a fun way. The allure of fire trucks and equipment entice young children (and adult enthusiasts!) and whilst there, fire service personnel can promote fire safety in the home.

If you would like the Fire Service to participate in a Community Event, please complete the application form below and forward it to firesafety@kildarecoco.ie Please be advised however that we may not be in a position to facilitate all requests received.
