Kildare County Council launches exciting line-up for Culture Night 2024
Kildare County Council is delighted to announce the exciting cultural programme of events taking place across County Kildare for Culture Night 2024 which will take place on Friday 20th September 2024 from 4pm till late.
Culture Night is an annual island-wide public event, a national moment that shines a light on all aspects of culture, creativity and the arts. It seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives, today and every day. The programme is delivered nationwide in cities, towns, villages and rural locations as well as online and through Culture Night’s media partners. On Culture Night, doors are open from 4pm till late, with special and unique events specifically programmed at participating locations. All activities are available to the public free of charge to allow audiences the opportunity to celebrate and fully engage with a variety of cultural activities and to benefit from the pleasure and rewards they bring.
Each year thousands of groups and individuals participate in Culture Night the length and breadth of Kildare. Over the last few months, we have been delighted to receive applications from all over the county from those who want to share their talent, culture, creativity and interests, on Friday 20th September. This year’s programme showcases the diversity of arts and culture in Kildare and offers a programme that fosters openness and encourages participation, valuing equality, inclusion, accessibility and diversity. CULTURE NIGHT COMMISSIONS
For the county’s Culture Night celebrations, Kildare Arts Service has commissioned a number of exciting public-facing projects, across art forms and across the county.
In the Riverbank Arts Centre, Brazilian guitar duo Gustavo de Morais and Robson Rocha will perform an enchanting instrumental concert titled ‘Essas Mulheres’, dedicated to celebrating the work of Brazilian female composers. Departing from Newbridge, join Public Art Specialist Rina Whyte for an insightful guided bus tour of public artworks around the county.
Through Leonard Cohen's songs and stories, John MacKenna and Angela Keogh present a dramatic and musical exploration of war, peace and mercy in Athy Library.
At the Kildare Community Gardens, take time to learn traditional craft skills in a variety of workshops in beautiful surrounds during a lively evening of fun, music and creativity.
Naas Library and Cultural Centre present ‘Truck Art in Irish Apparel’, Qandeel Kafeel’s exhibition inspired by a vibrant and colourful form of art popular in Pakistan.
At the ACRE Project in Celbridge, ‘Off the Record’ brings together an eclectic mix of artists from different genres to perform, chat about the creative process, and share the stories that inspired their songs. Departing from Naas, ukulele players are needed to fill the seats on the Big Ukulele Bus Busk which will take to the streets with the aim of bringing some musical fun to those who may not be able to access Culture Night otherwise.
