Kildare County Council sign works contract for the construction of 65 residential units at Old Greenfields/Fitzgerald Close, Maynooth
Kildare County Council has today signed a contract with Cunningham Contracts Group for the construction of 65 new social housing units and associated siteworks at Old Greenfields/Fitzgerald Close, Maynooth, Co Kildare.
Scheduled for completion in Q4 of 2025, this new development comprises of the construction of 26 Houses, 28 Apartments and 11 Duplex Apartment Units, including all civil, site development & landscaping works.
Cunningham Contracts Group and their design team have been successfully appointed to deliver this design and build scheme on site. van Dijk architects, along with Hayes Higgins Partnership and McGahon Surveyors will act as the Technical Advisory Design Team to Kildare County Council whilst on site.
Maynooth is Kildare County Councils pilot decarbonising zone and all the dwellings will be built to an A BER rating. 13 of the new dwellings will adhere to Universal Design standards and be Age-Friendly, enabling older adults to continue living independently.
Old Greenfields/Fitzgerald Close, is within 850m distance from Maynooth town centre, 600m from Maynooth train station, 960m from Maynooth library, close to many local amenities which makes this location ideal for social housing that can satisfy sustainable housing objectives.
Speaking at the contract signing, the Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Cllr Joe Neville said “The addition of this proposed development of 65 residential social housing units will further address the social housing needs in the county and is an important milestone in delivering homes for those most in need.”

Verity Faith, Architect ARB PhD BArch BSc(Hons), Van Dijk Architects said; "van Dijk architects are delighted to see Old Greenfields, Maynooth progress to site and commence construction. The scheme design provides 65 units which has the potential of accommodating 258 people. A variety of types of housing including one, two, three and four bedroom houses and apartments will provided which reflects the housing need in Co Kildare. The site is well located and is well serviced by existing amenities and infrastructure. The design follows the Dutch design principles of Woonerf (living streets) which places emphasis on careful detailing in the landscaping, shared surfaces and gently curving streets in order to slow traffic and create a safe and inclusive environment for all to enjoy. "
