Seed Saving Film Screenings and ‘Sowcial’ Seed Swap (Maynooth)
To launch the Kildare Seed Library, we are hosting a series of documentary film screenings in the 3 participating branches over 3 days.
We hope that people attending might bring along some seeds to swap with each other, to start a community of green-fingered enthusiasts! It is also an opportunity for people to borrow seeds from the new Seed Library in each of the branches. No booking required.
Seeds of Sovereignty (2013, narrated by Theo Sowa) shares the stories of African communities embarking on a journey to revive their traditional seed diversity and in doing so, to forge a path towards food sovereignty. Exploring their relationship to seed and its deep cultural and spiritual significance, the film draws attention to the vital importance of seed diversity to humanity’s collective resilience and health and that of the ecosystems we rely on.
Seeding Tomorrow: A New Seed Sovereignty film (2023). This magical new film, made by Andy Pilsbury for The Gaia Foundation, follows the market gardeners in Ireland who are returning to seed production; amongst the chaos of Brexit and climate change, their story offers security and hope for the future. They are seeding tomorrow and the world needs more growers to do the same.
