How do I join Kildare Libraries?

How do I contact my local library?
How do I view my library account?
Members can view their library accounts online including renewing and requesting items
To access your account you will need:
- Library card barcode number (e.g. B123456)
- 4-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number)
- To register a PIN, present your library card in person to a member of staff at your local library
How do I search the library catalogue?
What can I borrow from the library?
- You can borrow Books, Magazines, Energy Saving Toolkits, DVDs, and Music CDs
- You can borrow up to 12 items on your library card
- Most items can be borrowed for a loan period of 3 weeks
How do I renew my items?
- In person, at your local library by bringing your library card to library desk or on the self-service kiosks
- By phoning your local library (please have your membership card ready)
- By logging into your library account
- You cannot renew an item that is reserved by someone else, or where its renewal limit has already been reached
What fees apply?
- There are NO FINES on overdue / late items. Overdue notifications by text and email will still be sent as reminders
- You will be asked to pay a replacement charge if the item which has been lost or damaged is an adult item. This cost will be calculated as the purchase price of the item. Replacement charges can be paid at any library branch at our SurfBox kiosks, regardless of where the item originated from. Alternatively, you can provide us with a replacement copy
- There is no replacement charge for children’s items which have been lost or damaged
- Please note, if you have not notified the library of the loss or damage, your card will be temporarily blocked from borrowing or renewing items, including eBooks and eAudiobooks until you inform a library staff member

Library members can request (or place a ‘hold’ on) books or other items by following these instructions
How do I borrow eBooks/ eAudiobooks?
- To borrow an eBook or eAudiobook all you need is your library card number and a PIN number
- Log in to our eBook service here and transfer to your eReader
- Or you can download eBooks using the BorrowBox app to your iPad, tablet, smart phone or Kindle Fire (but not Kindle)
How do I use computers in the library?
- All libraries in Kildare have FREE public access PCs and in some branches laptops or tablets available for public use. There is also FREE WiFi for library members.
- Please note you require a library card number and PIN in order to access WiFi
- More information about computers and Internet access can be found at the Internet Policy section of our website
- Members are also welcome to use their own laptops, tablets etc. in our libraries
- Guest access is availbale on a once-off basis for non-members, visitors, holidaymakers. Please enquire at staff desk.
How do I print/ photocopy/ scan?
Via Surfbox Self Service Kiosks
- Black and White A4 prints and photocopies cost €0.20c per page
- Colour A4 prints and photocopies cost €0.60c per page
- Black and White A3 prints and photocopies cost €0.40c per page
- Colour A3 prints and photocopies cost €1.20 per page
- Scanning documents is free of charge

I'm a teacher/childcare worker. Can I get a library card for classroom use?
Yes! Teachers can sign up for an 'Education' library card; this allows you to borrow up to 40 items for a loan period of 12 weeks (3 months approx.). These cards are available to staff working in registered pre-primary, primary, and secondary education institutions.
To apply, call into your local branch with photo ID and a letter from your institution confirming you work there and that you are applying for the card for use in the classroom.
Please note, this card can only be issued to staff working in educational institutions located in Co. Kildare.
You can also apply for a card to borrow items from our Toys, Technology and Training catalogue of assistive toys and equipment for classroom use--please contact your local Kildare library for more information.
