Born in Malin, Inishowen, county Donegal in 1950, Sean Fingleton studied painting at Letterkenny Regional Technical College and at post-graduate level at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. He has exhibited widely across Ireland and overseas over the past thirty years.
This abstract work by Sean Fingleton is a lithograph. Lithography is a printing technique that dates to the 1790s, originally used for publishing texts. Since the 1820s lithography has had a rich history of being used by artists beginning with Delacroix, Géricault and Goya. Henri Toulouse-Lautrec was famous for the lithograph posters he created in the 1880s and 90s, and artists such as Juan Miró, Pablo Picasso, David Hockney and Robert Rauschenberg continued used the technique throughout the twentieth century.
