Kildare County Council appoints new Cathaoirleach & Leas-Chathaoirleach
Friday 20th June 2025: Elected members of Kildare County Council today appointed Councillor Carmel Kelly and Councillor Veralouise Behan as Cathaoirleach and Leas-Chathaoirleach of the County of Kildare respectively, at the Annual meeting of the County Council which took place in the Council Chamber, Aras Chill Dara.
The new appointees will succeed the outgoing Cathaoirleach and Leas-Chathaoirleach Councillor Kevin Duffy and Councillor Fintan Brett, following their term.
Councillor Carmel Kelly and Councillor Veralouise Kelly were presented with the chain of office at today’s meeting and will serve as Cathaoirleach and Leas-Chathaoirleach for 1 year, effective immediately following today’s meeting.
The appointment of new Cathaoirligh, Leas-Chathaoirligh, Mayors and Deputy Mayors for the five Municipal District Committees in Kildare will be made at each of the respective Municipal District meetings in July.
