Vacant Properties
Commercial Rates must be paid on all properties, whether occupied or not. However, a Vacant Property Adjustment may apply if your property is vacant because
- You cannot find a tenant at a reasonable rent
- You are carrying out repairs or alterations to the property
- The property is pending demolition or re-development.
If you would like your property to be considered for a Vacant Property Adjustment, please provide:
- A completed application form, available HERE.
- Supporting documents as set out in the application form.
Please submit your application as soon as the period of vacancy starts. The Revenue Collector for your area will inspect the property and if appropriate, make a recommendation to the Head of Finance for a Vacant Property Adjustment on your account.
An application for a Vacant Property Adjustment must be made for each year of vacancy. If no application is made, the rates will be deemed payable and collection will be pursued.
Property owners are reminded of their obligation under Section 32 of the Local Government Reform Act 2014 to inform Kildare County Council in writing when a property is sold or when a new tenancy begins. Notification must be given within 14 days of the date of transfer and failure to do so may result in a penalty being issued.
