Local Studies

Local Studies includes an extensive range of material including: books, journals, newspapers, photographs, postcards, maps, audio-visual material (including oral history recordings) and ephemera. Material published about or by people in Co. Kildare is the focus of the collection, though it also includes works on Irish history including a large amount of books published before 1850. 

The majority of books and periodicals in the collection can be searched for via the online library catalogue; please note that cataloguing of collections is ongoing.

Location

The Kildare County Archives and Local Studies Research Room is located at Harbour View, Naas, Co. Kildare, W91 A997.

Irish Newspaper Archive including The Radical Newspapers Archives

Includes a range of national and regional newspapers, including Kildare Nationalist (formerly Nationalist & Leinster Times), Leinster ExpressIrish IndependentFreeman's JournalIrish Press, and Leinster Leader (1880-1929).

Find My Past

Provides access to billions of digitised records including many Irish sources such as parish records, military service records, prison registers, travel records and census returns. Access Find My Past at any full-time Kildare library branch via a public access PC or WiFi.  Access to Find My Past is supported by the County Kildare Decade of Commemorations Committee & the Department of Tourism, Culture, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries 2012-23 initiative. 

British Newspaper Archive

Includes many Irish, English, Welsh and Scottish newspapers. This resource is particularly useful as it includes several decades of the Leinster Leader (1884-1889 & 1925-1955).
