Rural Development LEADER Programme (RDP)
Kildare Local Community Development Committee (LCDC), in partnership with County Kildare Leader Partnership, is reponsible for the delivery of the Rural Delevlopment (LEADER) Programme in Kildare. Decisions on LEADER funding are made at a local level by a network of Local Action Groups (LAGs). A community-led Local Development Strategy provides the framework within which decisions are made. The Kildare LAG is made up of both public and private local community members.
The vision for the Kildare Local Development Strategy is of a more inclusive and vibrant county which creates both a positive sense of place, and the conditions for all citizens, young and old, to fully participate in the civic, economic, social. and cultureal life of their communities.
The LEADER Programme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD) and the European Union. The total allocation for Kildare during the lifetime of the programme 2023-2027 is €5.4m.
The three programme themes are:
1) Economic Development & Job Creation
2) Rural Infrastructure & Social Inclusion
3) Sustainable Development of Rural Environment & Climate Change Mitigation and Adpaption.
The current Kildare RDP Local Development Strategy (LDS) was approved by the LCDC and the Department of Rural and Community in late 2023.
