Rural Development LEADER Programme (RDP)

Kildare Local Community Development Committee (LAG) in partnership with County Kildare Leader Partnership is responsible for the delivery of the Rural Development (LEADER) Programme in Kildare. The objective of the programme is to work with communities and individuals to provide funding, support and resources to assist in the development of stronger, better-connected communities, more resilient and prosperous communities. 

The current Kildare RDP Local Development Strategy (LDS) was approved by the LCDC and the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs in late 2016.

The LEADER Programme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development (DRCD) and the European Union. The total allocation for Kildare during the lifetime of the programme 2014-2023 is €6.4m.

The three programme themes are:

1) Economic Development, Economic Development and Job Creation

2) Social Inclusion

3) Rural Environment

To date, 91 projects have been awarded LEADER grant assistance for a diverse range of projects including rural youth, local biodiversity, enterprise development, community facilities and rural tourism.
