Biodiversity and Natural Heritage
Biodiversity is short for ‘biological diversity’. It is the collective term for the different organisms on our planet from bacteria to plants, animals, flora and fauna. In Kildare we are fortunate to have various ecosystems of immense biodiversity value. When you think about our county some of our best features are our natural heritage sites such as The Curragh, Pollardstown Fen, The Bog of Allen, our beautiful canal and river walkways to name but a few. These are not just beautiful to look at but are vital for the promotion of greater species diversity, ensuring natural sustainability for all inhabitants of our planet.
