At a Special meeting of Kildare County Council on Monday 25th March 2024, Proposed Amendment No.1 was adopted.
This will come into effect 6 weeks from the date of the meeting. The Amendment will be available on this page once in effect.


The reason for this amendment was to comply with Objective CON 1.1(a) of the LAP, which states that ‘No residential development shall take place on the lands identified within the Confey Urban Design Framework until such time as a masterplan is prepared and integrated into the Leixlip Local Area Plan by way of a statutory amendment to the Local Area Plan, pursuant to Section 20 of the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended).’

Extension of Leixlip Local Area Plan 2020 - 2023  to 30th March 2026 (inclusive)

In accordance with Section 19 of the Planning & Development Act 2000, as amended, the Members of Kildare County Council at the October Council meeting on Monday 24th October 2022 adopted the following resolution for the Leixlip Local Area Plan 2020 – 2023;

To extend the life of the Leixlip Local Area Plan 2020-2023 by a further 3 years (i.e. up to 30th March 2026), in accordance with the provision of Section 19 of the Planning and Development Act, 2000 (as amended), and defer the sending of a notice under Section 20(3)(a)(i) and publishing a notice under section 20(3)(a)(ii) of the Act for that 3 years.  The extension of the LAP is sought in order to provide certainty and opportunity to realise the strategic objectives of the Leixlip Local Area Plan 2020-2023, which are in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area’.

The Leixlip Local Area Plan 2020 - 2023 was adopted by the Members of Kildare County Council at a special meeting held on Monday 16th December 2019. Please note that this L.A.P. will be in force for a period of 3 years from 2020 – 2023.
