Kildare County Council Announces the Commencement of Works on the Craddockstown Road, Naas Active Travel Scheme
19 February 2025: Kildare County Council is pleased to announce that Clonmel Enterprises Ltd has been awarded the contract for the Craddockstown Road Active Travel Scheme following an open tender competition. The works will commence on 24th February at Craddockstown Road, Naas.
This project includes a comprehensive redesign of the Craddockstown Road from the Ballycane Road Junction to the local schools on the Craddockstown Road, to enhance pedestrian and cyclist facilities and improve safety for non-vehicular road users. The project will include the partial realignment of Craddockstown Road to make space for new cycle facilities and will feature:
- A 2.5 metre wide, bidirectional cycleway on the east side of Craddockstown Road, with an adjacent upgraded footpath of minimum width 2.0 metres
- A 3 metre wide shared path for pedestrians and cyclists on the east side of Craddockstown Road, along the central section of the proposed scheme
- A 2 metre wide, upgraded footpath on the west side of Craddockstown Road
- Upgrade of the existing pedestrian crossing on Craddockstown Road to a signalised toucan crossing
- Raised entry treatment for continuous level crossings by pedestrians and cyclists at the intersections of Craddockstown Road with Oak Glade Close road and the junction of Craddockstown Road and Ban Na Greinne Road
- Safe Routes to School road markings and bollards at the local schools
