Kildare County Council Announces Maynooth Community Climate Action Series
Kildare County Council is inviting the Maynooth community to take part in a new Community Climate Action Series to help shape the future of the Maynooth Decarbonising Zone (DZ) this September and October.
The series will provide opportunities for residents, community groups, businesses, students, local organisations and other stakeholders to learn more about the Maynooth DZ, share their views and priorities and explore practical ways to support climate action in the town and surrounding area.
It will be delivered through three connected events under the themes Have Your Say, Join the Conversation and Take Action:
- Saturday, 12 September - Maynooth 2030 – What Would You Choose?
Manor Mills Shopping Centre, Maynooth 10am-3pm
This pop-up event will invite people to share their views on what they would like Maynooth to become over the coming years. Through simple, visual and interactive activities, participants will be encouraged to identify local priorities such as walking and cycling, green spaces, flooding, local energy, biodiversity, waste prevention, community facilities and support for local groups.
- Saturday, 3 October - Shaping Maynooth’s Climate Future – Local Dialogue Event for the Maynooth Decarbonising Zone
Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth, 9.30am to 1.45pm (Registration from 9am)
This structured half-day event will bring together pre-registered participants for short presentations, facilitated table discussions and feedback exercises. It will explore local climate risks, the role of the Maynooth DZ, existing and future community priorities as well as the supports needed to help households, community groups, businesses and organisations take climate action locally. Feedback gathered during the event will help inform the next phase of work on the Maynooth DZ, including potential working groups, community supports, local priorities and an online information hub.
- Sunday, 25 October - From Dialogue to Action – Circular Living in Maynooth DZ, Maynooth Education Campus, 11:00am to 2:00pm
This practical community-facing event will be delivered alongside a Toy Library and will focus on circular economy actions such as reuse, repair, borrowing, sharing and reducing waste. It will also provide an opportunity to report back on the feedback gathered through the earlier stages of the series and to connect people with practical actions and future opportunities to stay involved in the Maynooth DZ.
Speaking about the Community Climate Action Series, Paul Regan, Decarbonising Officer, Kildare County Council, said: “The Maynooth Decarbonising Zone can only succeed with strong local involvement. This series is about listening to the community, understanding local priorities, and identifying how Kildare County Council can best support practical, community-led climate action in Maynooth.”
Kildare County Council is keen to hear from a broad range of voices across Maynooth, including residents, young people, students, businesses, community and voluntary groups, local institutions, public services, environmental groups and people who may not have previously engaged with climate action initiatives.
The series is intended to be accessible, practical and community-focused. It will provide a space for people to share their views, identify opportunities for action and consider what supports are needed to make climate action easier and more inclusive at local level.

The Maynooth Decarbonising Zone forms part of Kildare County Council’s wider climate action work. Decarbonising Zones act as local test beds for climate action, helping communities explore practical measures to reduce emissions, respond to climate risks and support a more sustainable and resilient future.
