Kildare County Council Awards Contract for Development of Maynooth Eastern Ring Road

4th November 2025: Kildare County Council has confirmed the main works contract for the Maynooth Eastern Ring Road has been awarded to John Cradock Limited.  The successful contractor for the development of the new single carriageway relief road has been appointed following an extensive tender process and recent confirmation of part funding for the project by the Department of Housing as part of the Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (LIHAF).

The new Maynooth Eastern Ring Road, upon completion, will link the R405 Celbridge Road in the south with the R148 Leixlip Road in the north and include the provision of two new signalised junctions, dedicated pedestrian and cyclist facilities, as well as a 41-meter long single-span bridge across the Royal Canal and the Dublin to Sligo railway line.

The project also involves several ancillary works including the construction of noise barrier walls, the realignment and modification of approx. 800m of existing roads and the provision of four new bus stops. 

As part of the plans, provision is also made for access to lands which have been zoned for future residential development in the area.

Welcoming the announcement, Sonya Kavanagh, Chief Executive, Kildare County Council said; “We are delighted to have awarded the contract and for works to begin on the development of the new Maynooth Eastern Ring Road.  This will be a fantastic addition to the area, and one that will improve the daily lives of the people of Maynooth, the surrounding areas and commuters alike.  Major projects such as this are a priority for Kildare County Council and we look forward to working in partnership with John Cradock Limited to deliver it.
