Kildare County Council Issues Key Public Safety Messages for Storm Éowyn
24th January 2025: Kildare County Council’s Severe Weather Team and Crisis Management Team convened this morning to review the impact of Storm Éowyn across Kildare. The storm has caused significant disruptions to electricity, telecommunications and trees throughout the county. Roads are in a poor condition with debris and fallen trees and motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution and be mindful of vulnerable road users including pedestrians and cyclists.
Starting at 12.00 PM the weather warning will downgrade from Orange to Yellow. Our crews will deploy using a dynamic risk assessment approach to health and safety to assess the situation across our Municipal Districts and to commence the clean-up operation. Our Transportation and Parks teams will collaborate with professional arborists to address the windblown trees. However, due to the extensive impact of the storm, the clean-up operation will take time and extend over the weekend.
Our offices are closed today, but our staff are working remotely. Reports of fallen trees can be made via our out-of-hours service at 1800 500 444. Given the extent of the storm, there are high call volumes to this service, and we ask the public to be patient.
We are posting current information about fallen trees on our alerts system, available on our website - https://kildarecoco.ie/emergencynews/wp/
