Liffey Valley Park (Leixlip to Celbridge) Public Survey 2024
Did you know that there is a Strategy to deliver a Liffey Valley Park aimed at establishing the Liffey Valley as a recognized asset for the benefit of local communities and visitors to the area?
Would you like to have more accessible amenities along the River Liffey?
Would you like to see connections between the River Liffey and local amenities or destinations?
Kildare County Council is exploring the potential for the provision of a Liffey Valley Park extending over approximately 6.35km between St. Catherine’s Park, Leixlip to Celbridge Bridge, Co. Kildare. If delivered, this would be the first phase of a potentially wider Liffey Valley Park that provides access to a ‘necklace’ of public lands along the River Liffey within County Kildare. The vision is to provide for the recreational needs of the area and help to conserve the biodiversity and amenity value of the river corridor and connect to amenities in the adjoining areas of South Dublin and Fingal.
Work on a Feasibility Study has commenced and this will be completed in 2025, which will evaluate the opportunity and deliverability of the proposed park.
To inform the Feasibility Study, Kildare County Council is undertaking a public survey to improve our understanding of the River Liffey corridor between Leixlip and Celbridge, and the way it might be developed in the future for the benefit of local communities and visitors to the area.
The project is supported by the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), which provides for the detailed development of projects with the objective of providing for new outdoor recreational infrastructure and/or the enhancement of existing outdoor recreational infrastructure to contribute to healthy active lifestyles. It also supports the economic and tourism potential of the area for both local communities and tourist visitors alike.
Public engagement is an important aspect of this project. Kildare County Council is seeking to gather information and views from individuals who live, visit or work in or near Leixlip and Celbridge. Kildare County Council is launching an on-line survey to hear from as many voices and opinions as possible to help us understand your own and/or your family’s recreational interests and how the Vision for the Liffey Valley Park could be realised.
