Naas regains title of Ireland’s Cleanest Town
Kildare County Council is delighted to welcome the announcement today, that Naas has topped the rankings as the cleanest town in Ireland by Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) in their 2024 survey.
This is the third time in four years that Naas has finished atop the rankings.
An Taisce who conduct the surveys on behalf of IBAL praised Naas on an achievement “that didn’t happen overnight”. Naas Plaza was given a mention, being described as one of many sites that were ‘spotless’, with the canal bank / basin cited as clearly “a much cared for and respected site”.
Cathaoirleach of the County of Kildare, Kevin Duffy accepted the Dr Tom Cavanagh Memorial Trophy at the Naas Library and Cultural Centre. Speaking at the presentation he said, “This is a great achievement for Naas and a testament to all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to keep the town looking so well. I’m delighted to offer sincere congratulations to all involved. The award is a well-deserved acknowledgement of the work of Naas Tidy Towns, the local retail community, and Kildare County Council amongst many others.”
Maynooth, a former top-ranking town in the IBAL litter league, also performed well achieving status “cleaner than European norms.”
Welcoming today’s results, Annette Aspell, Deputy Chief Executive, Kildare County Council said; “Significant works have been done to improve the appearance of Naas and it is a great honour to have it recognised as Ireland’s Cleanest Town. This award shows the importance of voluntary work at local community level. We would like to formally recognise everybody who contributed to this achievement, including Naas Tidy Towns, our Municipal District Team and our Environment Team”.
